As many of you know, my husband is a combat veteran. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan in the USMC. I am thankful he is home and almost ok, I mean his shoulder is bionic but that makes him extra special I think 🙂

A few of the men he served with lost their lives fighting for ours. Our men and women see a lot of things, and go through a lot that most of us can’t even imagine. Unfortunately when our men and women come home from war, the “battle” isn’t over. Many suffer from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and take their own lives because of it. Did you know approximately 22-24 veterans commit suicide every day across the United States. That is one person approximately every 65 minutes. Heart Breaking. A Near and Dear brother that served with Cory, Zach, started an amazing organization called 22 Until Valhalla which is involved with the following:

  • Work hand in hand with Veterans and Veteran’s Families
  • Provide guidance and assistance to Veterans in Crisis
  • Coordinate benefits according to the needs of the Veteran
  • Raising awareness through speaking events
  • Bridge the gap between Civilian and Veteran relationships through education and empowerment

Nothing short of amazing right? I encourage you to check out this wonderful organization, donate if you can, rock a shirt if you’d like (hoodies, tshirts, tanks.. men and womens! they are awesome!) , and if you know of anyone that needs help direct them to it. I feel we need to be more aware of this epidemic and actively help and get involved as much as possible.

In addition, if you are interested in learning more, or really are eager to help, check out 22 Kill and sign up to be a battle buddy! You DO NOT need to have served. All you need is a love to help, and ears to listen to anyone who needs to talk. Go check it out 🙂
